Kawasaki W230 Unveiled for Overseas Market

Kawasaki has officially launched its new W230 retro motorcycle overseas, following its unveiling a few months ago. This classic-styled motorcycle shares the same engine as the KLX230 dual-sport bike, which is also set to launch in India.

Priced at $5,599 in the USA, the W230 is slightly more expensive than the Ninja 500. While this may seem steep for a simple air-cooled motorcycle, it’s not necessarily indicative of its potential pricing in India. Kawasaki has already localized the KLX230 for the Indian market, increasing the likelihood of a localized W230 as well.

The W230 features a retro design reminiscent of the larger W800, with a circular LED headlight, dual analogue gauges with a digital display, and chrome detailing. Despite sharing the same engine as the KLX230, the W230 has a different engine case design. While the power figures for the W230 are not yet available, it is expected to have similar power and torque to the KLX230.

The W230 is designed for easy handling with a low seat height and a lightweight design. It offers a potential rival to the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 in terms of power and styling.

While there is no official confirmation yet, Kawasaki India may consider localizing the W230 for the Indian market. A localized version could be priced competitively with the Hunter 350 and offer a unique alternative to other retro-styled motorcycles. However, the company’s previous experience with the W175, which failed to gain significant traction, might influence their decision.
