The wait is over! India’s beloved hatchback, the Maruti Suzuki Swift, is getting a much-anticipated upgrade and is set to launch on May 9th, 2024. Here’s a comprehensive look at everything we know about the new-gen Swift based on leaked information and spied units.
A New Engine Under the Hood
The biggest change comes under the hood. The 2024 Swift ditches the 1.2-litre K-series engine for a new 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder Z-series petrol engine. This engine is expected to deliver 82 PS of power and 112 Nm of torque, promising better fuel efficiency and improved driving dynamics. Maruti will retain the familiar 5-speed manual transmission (MT) and automated manual transmission (AMT) options.
Subtle Yet Sharper Design
While it’s a new generation, the design updates on the exterior are more evolutionary than revolutionary. The front fascia gets a refreshed grille, bumper, and new LED DRLs, giving it a more modern look. The side profile showcases new 16-inch alloy wheels and a repositioned set of rear door handles that are no longer on the C-pillar. The rear boasts a new bumper and sportier-looking taillights with darkened elements. Overall, the design retains the iconic Swift silhouette while incorporating contemporary touches.
Fresh Interiors and Upgraded Features
The cabin gets a more significant makeover compared to the exterior. The most noticeable change is the adoption of a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, likely compatible with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The dashboard layout resembles the Maruti Baleno, featuring sleek AC vents and a redesigned climate control panel. The driver’s side retains the familiar dual-pod analogue instrument cluster with a TFT multi-information display. Expect a lighter cabin theme with a combination of light and dark grey sections.
The feature list gets a significant boost, with six airbags offered as standard across variants. Additionally, features like wireless charging, connected car technology, cruise control, automatic climate control, rear parking camera, and push-button start-stop are expected to be carried over.
Expected Price and Competition
The new-gen Swift is likely to command a slight premium over its predecessor, with a starting price expected to be around Rs 6.5 lakh (ex-showroom). It will continue to rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and might also be considered an alternative to the Renault Triber and Maruti Wagon R.
Stay tuned for more updates as the official launch unveils the final specifications, features, and price of the new Maruti Suzuki Swift!
