Tata Motors has streamlined its Nexon EV lineup by discontinuing the 40.5 kWh battery option. Previously, the Nexon EV was offered with 30 kWh, 40.5 kWh, and 45 kWh battery packs. Now, only the 30 kWh and 45 kWh versions remain.
This change comes after Tata Motors introduced the larger 45 kWh battery pack in September 2024. The now-discontinued 40.5 kWh battery offered a claimed range of 390 km (MIDC cycle), positioning it between the 30 kWh (275 km) and 45 kWh (489 km) options. The Tata Nexon EV is now available in ten variants across eight trim levels.

Here’s a breakdown of the current Nexon EV variants and their ex-showroom prices:
30 kWh Battery:
- Creative Plus: ₹12.49 lakh
- Fearless: ₹12.29 lakh
- Fearless Plus: ₹13.79 lakh
- Fearless Plus S: ₹14.29 lakh
- Empowered: ₹14.79 lakh
45 kWh Battery:
- Creative: ₹13.99 lakh
- Fearless: ₹14.99 lakh
- Empowered: ₹15.99 lakh
- Empowered Plus: ₹16.99 lakh
- Red Dark: ₹17.19 lakh
The 30 kWh Nexon EV variants use a motor producing 128 bhp and 215 Nm of torque, while the 45 kWh versions have a more powerful motor generating 142 bhp and the same 215 Nm of torque.

The 30 kWh battery offers a claimed range of 275 km (MIDC* Part I+II) with 130 PS of power, while the 45 kWh battery boasts a claimed range of 489 km (MIDC* Part I+II) and 144 PS of power. Both share the same 215 Nm of torque.
The Nexon EV MR, equipped with the 30 kWh battery, is available in Creative+, Fearless, Fearless+, Fearless+S, and Empowered trims. The Nexon EV 45, featuring the 45 kWh battery, comes in Creative, Fearless, Empowered, Empowered+, and Red Dark trims.

While the 40.5 kWh variants were priced between ₹14.59 lakh and ₹16.29 lakh, the discontinuation doesn’t change the overall price range, which remains from ₹12.49 lakh to ₹17.19 lakh. Real-world range tests of the 40.5 kWh version showed results closer to Tata’s C75 figure (290-310km) than the MIDC figure, with an overall range of 273km. Tata Motors states that the C75 cycle is a more realistic measure, with 75% of owners expected to achieve this range.
