Ola Gen 3 Platform: Launching January 31, 2025

Ola Gen 3

Ola Electric has revealed that its next-generation electric vehicle platform, Gen 3, will debut in India on January 31, 2025. The company made the announcement through its social media channels, promising a significant leap forward compared to the current Gen 2 platform.

The Gen 3 platform revolves around three core improvements: a new battery, motor, and control unit. The battery pack will be structurally integrated into the scooter’s frame, enhancing its impact resistance. A key innovation is the use of indigenously developed “Bharat Cells.” Ola claims these made-in-India cells offer higher energy density than the 2170 cells currently used in their scooters.

The motor also sees a significant change. Moving away from traditional permanent magnet motors, Ola will employ magnetized electrical coil motors. This design is expected to improve thermal efficiency and boost overall performance.

Finally, the electronic control system gets an overhaul. The motor control unit (MCU) is now integrated directly into the motor. Further streamlining the system, Ola has consolidated parts of the electronic control units, the MCU, and the battery management system onto a single chip. This integrated approach, Ola suggests, paves the way for future implementation of advanced features like advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) on their scooters.

The first models to utilize the Gen 3 platform will be refreshed versions of the Ola S1 electric scooters. These upgrades are anticipated to translate into improved range, faster charging times, and a broader suite of features. The Gen 3 platform appears to be a foundational step for Ola, setting the stage for future electric two-wheeler development.
