Jaguar has shifted attention from its rebranding efforts to the reveal of the striking Type 00 concept car, marking a significant leap in its design language. Formerly known as the Design Vision concept, the Type 00 is a sleek, two-door coupe that hints at a future four-door GT set to debut in late 2025. The name “Type” nods to Jaguar’s legendary E-Type and recently discontinued F-Type, while the “00” symbolizes zero emissions and its position as the first model in the brand’s electric lineup.
Built on Jaguar’s new JEA electric platform, the Type 00 targets an impressive WLTP range of 478 miles (770 km) and an EPA range of 430 miles (692 km). Additionally, rapid charging allows for a 200-mile (321 km) boost in just 15 minutes. Although specifics on battery size and motor configuration remain under wraps, the Miami Art Week unveiling focused on showcasing Jaguar’s redefined luxury identity and futuristic design philosophy.
The front of the Type 00 abandons Jaguar’s traditional grille for a modern, minimalist aesthetic, featuring a slatted rectangular fascia with sleek LED lights and prominent “jaGuar” lettering. At the rear, wide fenders frame horizontal slats and light bars, creating an industrial yet elegant look. Notably, the vehicle lacks a rear window, with the liftback hatch blending seamlessly in a bold Miami Pink hue.
A second prototype, finished in London Blue, pays homage to Jaguar’s British heritage and the iconic 1961 E-Type launch. While the cab-backward stance evokes the classic E-Type, the design remains contemporary, steering clear of overt retro influences. The overall shape hints at Range Rover’s robust styling, underscoring Jaguar’s attempt to carve a distinct niche while embracing JLR’s broader design ethos.
Unique design details include brass accents, such as pop-out cameras embedded in trim pieces and interior touches on the steering wheel. Inside, the cabin features innovative materials like stone and high-end textiles, rejecting traditional wood and leather. Digital screens, though absent from sight, are concealed within the dashboard, emerging only when needed via electric mechanisms. Additionally, customizable interior lighting and digital displays can be activated using tactile “totems” stored in the center console.
While some concept features may not make it to production, many design elements will carry over to the final GT, expected to launch in 2026. Jaguar plans to introduce two more electric models before the decade’s end, including an SUV or crossover, further cementing its bold transition into the EV luxury space.
