New Cars for July 2024

The second half of 2024 is already here and the Indian automotive scene will be abuzz with new cars in July. Three new electric cars will be launched this month and two iconic names will be making a comeback in new guises. Here are all the cars launched in July in detail:

Tata Curvv EV

After months of waiting, the time has finally come for Tata’s latest product and the first to debut in electric car form ahead of the ICE version – the Curvv EV. It will be the first mainstream coupe SUV to be offered and will be positioned as a rival to the likes of the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara. Specifications are yet to be announced but the Tata Curvv EV is said to have a range of 400-500 km and is based on the Acti.ev platform. Expected features include dual 10.25-inch displays, a panoramic sunroof and ADAS for added safety.

Nissan X-Trail

It has been a decade since Nissan last offered the iconic X-Trail in India and a few years since its comeback was mooted. This could finally be the case as Nissan has introduced the fourth generation of the X-Trail in India. Internationally, this SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine with hybrid technology that supports both two-wheel drive (2WD) and four-wheel drive (4WD). It is also expected to feature a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a fully digital driver display of the same size, multi-zone automatic climate control and ADAS.

Redesigned Hyundai Alcazar

The Hyundai Alcazar is a three-row version of the acclaimed Creta compact SUV and was introduced three years ago. With the introduction of the Creta facelift, the Alcazar will also see its first real update. However, we recently spotted test vehicles of Hyundai’s flagship family SUV that look almost production-ready. In terms of design, it will again borrow many elements from the updated Hyundai Creta such as the grille, headlamps and taillamps. The 1.5-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines are also likely to be retained as in the current offering. However, new features include dual-zone climate control and ADAS.

Mercedes-Benz EQA

Mercedes-Benz has been steadily expanding its electric product lineup in India over the past year and is now all set to introduce its smallest model yet – the EQA. The upcoming EV, based on the dinosaur-juice-powered GLA SUV, will receive multiple powertrains. However, it will be interesting to see which one is considered for India. Like other Mercedes EVs, the EQA will feature a modern interior with two digital displays, including an MBUX infotainment system with digital assistant, a panoramic sunroof, and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

BMW 5 Series LWB

After being revealed last month, pre-orders for the BMW 5 Series LWB have recently begun. BMW also recently confirmed that the wait for the eighth-generation sedan will end on July 24. This will be the first time that the long-wheelbase version of the sedan will be available in India. As for changes, it will feature a new grille, headlights, taillights and design elements. There will be more features on the interior with dual digital screens, a head-up display, four-zone climate control and ADAS. While the electric BMW i5 is already here, we will get to know the details and pricing of the combustion engine option in July.

Mini Cooper

The next-generation Mini Cooper S will also debut in India this summer. This fourth-generation Cooper will feature a sleeker design while retaining the classic silhouette. The interior features more radical changes, with a 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen in the centre that also doubles as a driver’s display. It is powered by the same 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, which now offers more power. The equipment list includes a wireless phone charger, a panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and automatic climate control. Pre-orders for this compact car are currently being taken.

The first electric Countryman SUV will hit the market on July 24 alongside the new Mini Cooper S. In terms of design, it features a redesigned grille and taillights similar to those of the upcoming Mini Cooper. The interior is also similar to that of the Cooper and has a 9.4-inch OLED touchscreen in the centre. This electric vehicle has a 66.4 kWh battery for a WLTP range of 462 km. Features include electrically adjustable front seats, with the driver’s seat featuring a massage function, an electrochromic interior rearview mirror (IRVM), automatic climate control and a panoramic sunroof.
