Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG Set for September 2024 Launch: What to Expect

Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG

The Maruti Suzuki Swift has long been a favorite in India, renowned for its low running cost, reliability, and widespread appeal. Since its debut, the Swift has developed a cult following, becoming one of the best-selling cars of all time in the country. The recently launched 4th generation of the Swift has continued this success, and now there are reports that Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch a CNG variant of the Swift on September 12th, 2024.

2024 Maruti Suzuki Swift CNG

The latest generation of the Maruti Suzuki Swift is powered by Suzuki’s new Z12E 1.2L 3-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine. At present, the Swift is the only vehicle on sale in India featuring this powertrain, with more models expected to adopt the engine soon. Shortly after the launch of this new generation, reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki is ready to introduce the Swift S-CNG variant to further expand its eco-friendly lineup.

Dealer sources have indicated that the prices for the Swift S-CNG will be announced on September 12th, 2024. However, details regarding the type of CNG kit to be used in this variant remain unclear. Maruti Suzuki has traditionally equipped its S-CNG models with single-cylinder CNG kits, while competitors like Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor have adopted more advanced dual-cylinder or twin-cylinder CNG kits. These dual-cylinder setups offer superior performance and more usable boot space, which is a significant advantage for drivers who need extra storage.

CNG Kit and Pricing Expectations

Given that the 2024 Swift is a new vehicle powered by a new engine, it’s possible that Maruti Suzuki might introduce an updated CNG solution. However, if Maruti continues with its single-cylinder CNG kit, it may not provide as much boot space as the dual-cylinder setups seen in rival models.

As with other Maruti S-CNG variants, the Swift CNG is likely to be available only in lower and mid-tier trims. Based on previous pricing patterns, the Swift CNG is expected to cost around ₹90,000 more than its petrol-only counterparts.

While CNG models typically offer lower performance metrics compared to petrol-powered variants, the Swift CNG is still expected to be a highly attractive option for buyers seeking better fuel efficiency and reduced emissions. The upcoming launch could further cement the Swift’s reputation as a versatile and affordable choice for Indian drivers.
