Maruti Suzuki Recalls 2,555 Alto K10 Units Due to Steering Gearbox Defect

Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading car manufacturer, has initiated a recall for 2,555 units of the Alto K10 due to a possible defect in the Steering Gearbox Assembly. This recall affects a specific batch of vehicles produced during a particular period. Maruti Suzuki’s authorized dealer workshops will directly contact the owners of the impacted vehicles. The recall has been issued as a precautionary measure, with Maruti advising owners not to drive the affected cars until the issue is resolved. The company will inspect and replace the faulty part at no cost to the customers.

Maruti Suzuki has identified a potential issue with the Steering Gearbox Assembly in 2,555 units of the Alto K10, which could affect the vehicle’s steerability in rare cases. Due to safety concerns, Maruti has decided to recall these vehicles. The company has advised affected vehicle owners not to drive their cars until the defect is addressed. Authorized Maruti Suzuki dealer workshops will reach out to these owners to arrange for the inspection and replacement of the defective part. The entire process, including part replacement, will be carried out free of charge.

Alto K10 owners can check if their vehicle is part of this recall by entering the chassis number on Maruti’s official website. The chassis number, which starts with MA3 followed by a 14-digit number, is located on the panel behind the engine. Owners can also visit their nearest Maruti showroom for further information.

Alto K10 – India’s Most Affordable Car

Priced from Rs 3.99 lakh, the Alto K10 holds the title of the most affordable car in India. Its popularity stems from its stylish design and spirited performance. The Alto K10 ranks among the top 5 hatchbacks in the country, commanding a 9% share of the hatchback market. However, the segment has seen a decline as buyers increasingly prefer SUVs, with hatchback sales dropping by 17.72% year-over-year in June 2024. The Alto K10 itself saw a 31.33% decrease in year-over-year sales.

The Alto K10 is powered by a K10C petrol engine that produces 67 PS and 89 Nm of torque, paired with a choice of a 5-speed manual or AGS transmission. A CNG variant is also available, offering slightly reduced power at 57 PS and 82.1 Nm of torque, and is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. Key features of the Alto K10 include a 7-inch touchscreen, USB port, Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, remote keyless entry, air conditioning with heater, and a cabin air filter. For safety, it comes with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, a reverse parking sensor, an engine immobilizer, and a collapsible steering wheel.
