Additionally, the soon-to-be-launched Tata Curvv is expected to further intensify the competition in this space.
Design and Features
Citroen has emphasized the coupe design of the Basalt, making it a unique offering in its segment. The front fascia features chrome chevrons that seamlessly integrate into the LED projector headlamps and LED DRLs. The sloping roofline enhances the SUV’s sporty character, while the LED taillamps add a premium touch. The SUV rides on 16-inch alloy wheels, which, although stylish, are smaller compared to the 17-inch and 18-inch wheels offered by some of its rivals. The Basalt offers a ground clearance of 180mm.
The Basalt is available in five mono-tone color options: Garnet Red, Cosmo Blue, Polar White, Platinum Grey, and Steel Grey. Additionally, the Polar White and Garnet Red colors can be paired with a black roof for a dual-tone look.
Interior and Comfort
Inside, the Citroen Basalt boasts a spacious and well-appointed cabin. The SUV is equipped with a 10.24-inch standing touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. A 7-inch digital instrument cluster, similar to that in the C3 Aircross, provides essential driving information. Unlike the C3 Aircross, the Basalt features a new automatic climate control system for added convenience.
The Citroen Basalt offers a long wheelbase of 2,651mm, which translates to generous interior space. Rear passengers enjoy up to 980mm of legroom, and the segment-first ‘smart tilt cushion’ provides enhanced thigh support with an adjustable range of up to 87mm. Additionally, the Basalt comes with segment-first comfort headrests for lateral head support, further enhancing rear passenger comfort. The SUV also boasts an impressive 470 litres of boot space, among the largest in its segment.
Technology and Safety
The Citroen Basalt is packed with modern technology, including three USB ports, a wireless charger, and MyCitroen Connect with 40 connected features such as remote start/stop, pre-cooling, and intrusion alerts.
On the safety front, the Citroen Basalt is equipped with more than 40 active and passive safety features. The SUV’s body is constructed from a combination of high-strength steel, advanced high-strength steel, and ultra-high-strength steel, ensuring a robust structure. Standard safety features include six airbags, an electronic stability program, hill hold control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
Conclusion
With its attractive pricing, unique design, and feature-packed offering, the Citroen Basalt is poised to make a strong impact in the Indian mid-size SUV market. As Citroen continues to expand its presence in India, the Basalt could become a popular choice for buyers seeking a stylish, comfortable, and safe SUV.
