Kawasaki has officially launched the KLX 230 in India, a dual-sport motorcycle that has been undergoing testing in the country for some time. This versatile machine is now available for bookings at a nominal fee of Rs 5,000, with the official price to be announced in December, possibly at the India Bike Week 2024.
The KLX 230 boasts a rugged and purposeful design, with minimal body panels to reduce damage during off-road adventures. The bike features a small headlight with a cowl, a high-set mudguard, a compact fuel tank, and a stubby tail. The tall seat height of 880mm is ideal for tackling challenging terrain.
Powering the KLX 230 is a 233cc, air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that delivers 18.1bhp at 8,000rpm and 18.3Nm of torque at 6,400rpm. This engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox, providing ample low and mid-range grunt for both on-road and off-road riding.
The KLX 230 rides on a robust tubular steel frame and features a 37mm telescopic fork at the front and a link-type mono-shock at the rear with adjustable preload. The bike offers generous suspension travel of 240mm at the front and 250mm at the rear, ensuring a comfortable ride over rough terrain.
Equipped with a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel shod with MRF tires, the KLX 230 offers excellent off-road performance. Its high ground clearance of 265mm and lightweight design of 139kg make it easy to maneuver and handle in challenging conditions.
Braking duties are handled by a 265mm disc at the front and a 220mm disc at the rear, with switchable ABS for added safety and control. The KLX 230 also comes with a modern fully digital display and smartphone connectivity for added convenience.
Available in two colors – Lime Green and Battle Gray – the KLX 230 is expected to compete with the Hero Xpulse 200 4V in the Indian market. With its rugged design, capable engine, and versatile features, the KLX 230 is poised to attract adventure-seeking riders in India.
