Union Minister Nitin Gadkari emphasized the crucial shift towards alternative fuels and electric vehicles (EVs) during the launch event of the Revolt RV1 electric motorcycle in New Delhi. His remarks underscored India’s efforts to combat pollution and reduce dependency on fossil fuels.

Gadkari, a staunch advocate for sustainable energy solutions, highlighted his continuous efforts since 2004 in promoting alternative fuels and biofuels across India. “It gives me great pleasure to see how the industry is progressing,” he remarked, acknowledging the significant growth in employment within the automotive sector, which now employs 22 lakh people, including 4.5 lakh in the burgeoning EV industry alone.

The minister commended India’s electric two-wheeler industry for its global outreach, noting that 50% of the country’s two-wheeler production is exported. He expressed optimism about further expansion in this sector in the coming years.

Encouraging Indian manufacturers to embrace innovative technologies, Gadkari urged the adoption of ethanol, methanol, bio-LNG, and bio-CNG as viable alternatives. “These are the fuels of the future,” he asserted. He highlighted ongoing initiatives such as ethanol production from agricultural waste and advancements in battery technologies, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, which boasts 6% of the world’s lithium reserves.

Anjali Rattan, Co-Founder and Chairperson of Rattan India Enterprises, announced ambitious plans for market expansion. This includes exports to Sri Lanka and exploratory ventures in Nepal, Africa, and Latin America. The company aims to grow its sales network from 125 outlets to 500 within 12-18 months, underscoring the increasing demand and outreach of electric vehicles in the global market.

Gadkari’s vision at the Revolt RV1 launch reinforces India’s commitment to sustainable mobility and energy independence. As the nation advances towards cleaner transportation solutions, supported by robust governmental initiatives and private sector innovations, the future looks promising for both environmental sustainability and economic growth in the automotive sector.
