Tata Motors, a leading player in India’s electric vehicle market, is set to introduce another groundbreaking model, the Curvv EV. This new offering will position the company in the competitive mid-size SUV segment, a territory currently dominated by petrol and diesel-powered vehicles.
The launch of the Curvv EV marks a significant step for Tata, as it ascends into a more premium segment compared to its existing electric lineup, which includes popular models like the Nexon EV, Tiago EV, Punch EV, and Tigor EV. While a petrol and diesel version of the Curvv is also planned, the electric variant will be the first to hit the market.
The Curvv EV will face competition from established players like Hyundai’s Creta, though the latter is currently only available with conventional engines. MG Motor’s ZS EV is a similar-sized electric option but is expected to be priced higher than the Curvv. However, the landscape is evolving rapidly, with Hyundai reportedly developing an electric version of the Creta that will directly challenge Tata’s new offering.
Tata Motors has already established a strong foothold in the Indian EV market with a diverse range of electric vehicles. From the compact Punch EV to the more spacious Nexon EV, the company caters to a wide audience. Competitors include Mahindra’s XUV400, Citroën’s eC3, and MG Motor’s Comet EV. The upcoming Windsor EV from another manufacturer could also pose a challenge in the same segment as the Curvv.
