As India’s best-selling scooter brand, Honda’s dominance in this segment has been evident for a long time, driven by the highly popular Activa scooter, especially the 110cc version. But what about more premium, higher capacity offerings? Honda’s newly patented design, the Stylo 160, in India could be the answer.
Honda Stylo 160’s new design patented in India
Indian buyers’ desire for premium vehicles is increasing, with many scooter riders wanting to upgrade to a larger scooter instead of a motorcycle due to the practicality of a flat floor, under-seat storage, and the unisex appeal.
To stay competitive, Yamaha offers the Aerox 155 sports scooter, and Hero recently launched the ADV-style scooter Xoom 160. Honda might not want to miss out on this trend. The newly patented Honda Stylo 160 could be the solution. After previously patenting the Stylo 160 in India, Honda has now secured a patent for the new model, currently available only in Indonesia. This neo-retro scooter’s timeless design is sure to appeal to many.
Hexagonal LED headlights, round ORVMs and C-shaped turn signals mounted on the front fascia are notable design features. There are six color options: Royal Green, Royal Matte White, Royal Matte Black, Glam Red, Glam Black and Glam Beige. Only the first three color options benefit from single-channel ABS, while the last three only benefit from CBS.
The ORVMs are body colored and Honda has used contrasting colors for the footpegs, handlebar grips and seat covers. Depending on the color, Honda offers black or silver RSU telescopic forks at the front and black or bronze 12-inch alloy wheels. Features include a fully digital instrument cluster, full LED lighting, Honda Smart Key, USB charger and much more.
Will it be launched in India?
As for the powertrain, the Honda Stylo 160 is powered by a 156.9cc 4V single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine. It is capable of producing a maximum power of 15.4 HP and a maximum torque of 13.8 Nm. Honda promises a fuel consumption of 45 km/L.
While India is the world’s largest market for scooters and motorcycles, most of the volume is generated by lower-capacity, lower-cost offerings. This applies to both scooters and motorcycles. More and more scooter manufacturers are launching large-displacement offerings to attract high-end buyers and enthusiasts. As the market leader, Honda may be forced to launch a larger displacement offering. Honda is known for protecting its intellectual property in as many markets as possible, and this could be routine in that regard. However, we would like Honda to consider launching the Stylo 160 in India.
