2025 Volkswagen’s Tiguan Gets a Major Upgrade

Volkswagen is giving its best-selling Tiguan a major makeover for the 2025 model year. Taking inspiration from Europe’s Tayron, the new Tiguan offers a bolder and more modern design, particularly in the R-Line trim.

While VW hasn’t revealed all the specifics yet, the sleeker headlights with an optional LED light bar and an illuminated logo hint at a more sophisticated look. The sculpted bodywork and prominent wheel arches, ranging from 17 to 20 inches, exude a sense of dynamism. The rear end mirrors the Tayron’s design, but with vertical reflectors catering to American regulations.

Although detailed specifications remain under wraps, Volkswagen confirms a slightly longer wheelbase and a shorter rear overhang compared to the outgoing Tiguan. This suggests a size comparable to China’s two-row Tayron L, offering spaciousness without sacrificing maneuverability.

The 2025 Tiguan boasts a revised color palette, including exciting new options like Avocado Green Pearl, Sandstone Uni, and Monterey Blue Pearl. Additionally, a power liftgate adds convenience.

Stepping inside, the dated interior is replaced by a significantly more modern and upscale experience. Drivers will be greeted by a digital instrument cluster and an infotainment system, with the option for a truly immersive 15-inch display.

Gone is the traditional center stack. The shifter has been relocated to the steering column, freeing up space for a multi-function rotary control dial and integrated display. This knob allows drivers to control volume, adjust driving modes, and personalize the ambient lighting system.

Unlike the European variant, the North American Tiguan remains a five-seater. However, it offers standard cloth seats with an embossed design, promising a premium feel. Additionally, a wireless smartphone charger and automatic climate control ensure a comfortable ride.

For the ultimate luxury experience, higher-end models boast quilted leather front seats with heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Heated steering wheels and heated second-row seats further elevate comfort. Walnut wood trim and a tri-zone climate control system add an extra touch of sophistication.

Tech-savvy drivers will appreciate features like a head-up display, a customizable ambient lighting system with 30 color options, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.

Safety remains a top priority. The 2025 Tiguan comes standard with the IQ.Drive suite, including features like Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, and Emergency Assist. Additionally, ten airbags are now standard, providing comprehensive occupant protection.

Performance is also getting a boost. The Tiguan rides on the new MQB evo platform and packs a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine offering 201 horsepower. This slight increase in power is coupled with a weight reduction of around 170 lbs, thanks to the use of high-strength steel and aluminum components. These changes should translate to improved acceleration and fuel efficiency.

While official pricing is yet to be announced, expect a slight increase from the outgoing model, with a starting point likely around $30,000. The 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan promises a compelling combination of style, comfort, technology, and performance, making it a strong contender in the compact crossover segment.
