The traffic police fined a Jhansi man ₹1,000 for driving an Audi without a helmet, in a bizarre oversight.
Jhansi Truck Union president, Bahadur Singh Parihar, received the fine on his mobile phone. Though the vehicle in the challan’s photo is a two-wheeler, the category of vehicle is mentioned as a “motor car.”
Parihar opted to wear a helmet while driving his car rather than contesting the challan, fearing the RTO might issue another one.
Parihar was initially told to wait until after the Lok Sabha elections before he could visit the RTO office and inform the officials about the mistake.
“It’s surprising how police commit such acts despite having technical surveillance systems in place. I’ll continue wearing the helmet until the issue is resolved, or I might get another challan,” Parihar told the media.
Jhansi traffic inspector Umakant Ojha said, “It appears to be a clerical error. The challan photo shows a man riding a motorcycle without a helmet, but the vehicle number is incorrect.”
Parihar has now become a local attraction, driving his high-end car with a helmet.
