A new player has emerged in the commercial vehicle market: Flexis Mobility, a joint venture between automotive giants Renault and Volvo, along with shipping leader CMA CGM. They’ve just unveiled their first lineup of electric vans, designed specifically for the challenges of urban delivery.

These three new vans share a common electric skateboard platform and electronic architecture, offering customizable interiors and a low floor height for easy loading and unloading. Flexis is promising a WLTP range of up to 280 miles (450 km) and rapid charging, achieving 80% capacity in under 20 minutes. Recognizing the demanding nature of delivery driving, Flexis has prioritized ergonomics, including a driver’s seat designed to minimize knee strain, crucial for drivers who may enter and exit their vehicles hundreds of times daily.

The lineup includes three distinct models. The “Step-in” is a medium-sized van featuring sliding front doors and a rear shutter door – a claimed first for the European market. Its 74.8-inch (1,900 mm) interior height allows drivers to stand comfortably. The “Cargo Van” is geared towards last-mile delivery, boasting a highly adaptable cargo area that can accommodate different widths, heights, and configurations, including refrigerated units. This model features conventional front doors and a low cab height.

Perhaps the most intriguing is the “Panel Van.” While details remain scarce, Flexis emphasizes its superior maneuverability, 74.8-inch (1,900 mm) height, and versatile design that aims to overcome limitations of existing commercial vans. Its styling is also surprisingly modern for a work vehicle.

Production will take place at Renault’s Sandouville factory, with initial deliveries planned for 2026. Flexis will sell directly to fleet operators and logistics companies, and also supply vehicles to Renault for distribution through their sales channels.

The company has already built and tested 20 prototypes, accumulating over 9,000 driving hours since March 2023. They’ve also secured ten letters of intent from major logistics providers across France, Germany, and the UK, including Colis Privé, DB Schenker, and HIVED, signaling strong initial interest in their innovative approach to urban delivery.
