GAC, the Chinese automaker, has recently unveiled the first images of its upcoming electric hatchback, the Aion UT. Positioned as a “global strategic model,” the Aion UT is set to make its official debut at the 2024 Guangzhou Auto Show on November 15th.
The Aion UT boasts a sleek and modern design, characterized by its curvaceous body, grille-less front end, and stylish LED headlights. The interior, typical of modern electric vehicles, features a large, Tesla-style infotainment screen, a minimalist two-spoke steering wheel, and a floating center console.
In terms of dimensions, the Aion UT measures 4,270 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,575 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,750 mm. These dimensions are comparable to other popular electric hatchbacks, such as the Volkswagen ID.3, MG4, and BYD Dolphin.
Powering the Aion UT is a single electric motor that generates 134 horsepower. The vehicle is equipped with a lithium iron phosphate battery pack, although the exact capacity remains undisclosed. GAC claims that the Aion UT will offer a range of over 600 kilometers on a single charge.
The Aion UT is expected to be priced competitively, starting at under ¥100,000 in China, which is significantly lower than the starting prices of the MG4 and VW ID.3 in the Chinese market. This aggressive pricing strategy positions the Aion UT as a strong contender in the growing electric hatchback segment.
GAC Aion, as a leading electric vehicle brand, aims to expand its global footprint with models like the Aion UT. The brand currently operates in several markets, including Thailand, Mexico, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and the Philippines.
