Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid Spotted Testing in Gurugram

Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is likely to get a hybrid powertrain option, as a test mule was recently spotted in Gurugram. This move expands Maruti Suzuki’s hybrid offerings, which currently include the Grand Vitara and Invicto (both featuring technology shared with Toyota). Notably, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly aiming to bring the hybrid technology in-house for the Fronx, rather than relying on Toyota.

Visually, the test mule showed minimal changes. The “Fronx” badging has been relocated to the right side, above the “Hybrid” label. Otherwise, the Fronx Hybrid appears identical to the standard model.

Under the hood, the Fronx Hybrid is expected to utilize the newly developed Z12 engine, already featured in the new Swift. This engine will be paired with a strong hybrid system, incorporating a battery pack and electric motors. This setup will differentiate the Fronx Hybrid from the Grand Vitara and Invicto, which use a different hybrid system.

The current Fronx uses a 1.2-liter engine producing 89.73 hp and 113 Nm of torque, achieving a mileage of 21.79 kmpl with the 5-speed manual and 22.89 kmpl with the 5-speed automatic transmission. The new Z12 engine and hybrid system are expected to boost both power and fuel efficiency. The regenerative braking feature of the strong hybrid system will further contribute to fuel savings. Mileage is projected to exceed 30 kmpl, potentially reaching 35 kmpl.

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx Hybrid is anticipated to launch sometime in 2026. It will compete with other subcompact SUVs like the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV 3XO, and Tata Nexon.
