The Maruti Suzuki Swift, a popular hatchback in India and globally, is undergoing testing with potential upgrades, including the addition of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). While the current Indian model lacks ADAS features available in other markets like Europe, recent spy shots suggest that this may soon change.
Signs of ADAS Integration
A recent video by True Car Advice captured a Swift prototype undergoing road tests in India. Notably, the test mule featured subtle design changes, including a revised rear bumper with a chrome accent and cameras integrated into the ORVMs. These modifications strongly indicate the inclusion of ADAS features such as blind spot detection and lane keep assist.
Potential Export Focus?
However, the presence of disc brakes on the test mule, a feature currently exclusive to the Japanese market, raises the possibility that this particular prototype is intended for export.
ADAS in India: A Matter of Time and Price
The introduction of ADAS features in the Indian-spec Swift would likely increase the vehicle’s price, potentially impacting its market competitiveness. Therefore, it is anticipated that the launch of an ADAS-equipped Swift in India may take some time.
Current Swift Specifications
The current Swift in India is powered by a 1.2-liter, three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine producing 79 hp and 112 Nm of torque. It is available in five variants (LXi, VXi, VXi (O), ZXi, and ZXi (O)) with prices ranging from ₹6.49 lakh to ₹9.59 lakh (ex-showroom).
