Kawasaki has officially entered the Indian dual-sport motorcycle market with the launch of the KLX230. While the brand has previously offered off-road-oriented motorcycles in India, these models were primarily designed for off-road use and lacked road-legal credentials. The KLX230, however, addresses this gap, offering a capable dual-sport machine for both on- and off-road adventures.

Priced at ₹3.3 lakh (ex-showroom), the KLX230 boasts a rugged design characterized by a slim profile and a distinctive hexagonal headlight encased in a plastic cowl. This aesthetic is further enhanced by a compact fuel tank with a 7.6-liter capacity and a sleek single-piece seat. The bike is available in two striking color options: Lime Green and Battle Grey.

Built around a high-tensile steel perimeter frame, the KLX230 features 37mm telescopic front forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock, providing a capable suspension setup for tackling varied terrain. Braking duties are handled by a 265mm front disc with twin-piston calipers and a 220mm rear disc with a single-piston caliper.

Powering the KLX230 is a 233cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that delivers a healthy 18.1 horsepower at 8,000 RPM and 18.3 Nm of peak torque at 6,400 RPM. This power is channeled to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox. The bike’s lightweight construction, tipping the scales at 139 kg, further enhances its off-road agility and maneuverability.

The Kawasaki KLX230 will compete against established rivals such as the Hero Xpulse 200 4V and Xpulse 200 4V Pro in the Indian market. This marks the third India-made model for Kawasaki, following the successful launch of the Ninja 300 and W175.
