One year after unveiling the MT-X and 125NK Concept bikes at Milan’s EICMA show, CFMoto has transformed these ideas into production models for its 2025 lineup. While the smaller bike may not make it to the U.S., the MT-X, now officially branded as the 800MT-X, is likely to be released there in the near future.
The shift from concept to production model for the 800MT-X was anticipated, as design drafts were leaked in January, and the finalized version gained type approval in May. However, this is the first complete look at the ready-for-market model, including detailed specifications.
The resemblance to KTM’s 790 and 890 Adventure bikes is intentional. CFMoto’s longstanding collaboration with KTM includes a joint manufacturing facility in China, which produces models like the 790 Adventure and 790 Duke for global markets. The 800MT-X carries on this collaboration by featuring KTM’s 799cc LC8c parallel-twin engine and a nearly identical frame, similar to other CFMoto models. Distinctively, it also adopts KTM’s innovative dual low-mounted fuel tanks, aligning it closely with KTM’s Adventure line in both form and function.
The 800MT-X aims to attract the same market as the KTM 790 Adventure. Since it uses KTM’s engine and frame solutions, it avoids unnecessary redesigns, especially as KTM appears set to introduce an updated 990 Adventure. This strategic alignment could give CFMoto’s 800MT-X a valuable position in the adventure bike market.
When launched in the U.S., the 800MT-X might adopt the “Ibex” branding, as seen with other CFMoto models. The MT-X and Ibex 800 share components like a KYB-supplied swingarm and adjustable suspension. Unlike the Ibex 800, though, the MT-X is tailored for off-road adventures with larger wheels—21 inches in the front and 18 inches in the back—and offers 9 inches of suspension travel, a significant upgrade from the Ibex 800’s capabilities.
The engine tuning on the 800MT-X differs slightly, delivering 90 hp at 8,250 rpm and 63.4 lb.-ft. of torque at 6,500 rpm. It’s lighter, too, weighing in at 485 pounds, 24 pounds less than the Ibex 800. The dual low-mounted fuel tanks have a 5-gallon capacity, similar to the Ibex’s, but enable a flatter seat for greater rider mobility. A supplementary tank is available, adding 1.8 gallons.
Notable tech features include cornering ABS, traction control, a 7-inch color TFT display, and full LED lighting. Although CFMoto hasn’t announced an exact launch date or pricing for the 800MT-X in the U.S. or Europe, the bike is expected to offer competitive pricing, likely undercutting similar models from Japanese and European brands.
