Ford BlueCruise 1.4: Smoother, More Confident Hands-Free Highway Driving

Ford BlueCruise 1.4

Ford is taking its hands-free highway driving experience to the next level with the introduction of BlueCruise 1.4. This latest software update builds on previous versions, offering drivers a more natural feeling drive and more time cruising hands-free.

Enhanced Performance and Comfort

BlueCruise 1.4 focuses on improving driver engagement and comfort on the highway. Here’s what’s new:

  • Smoother Cornering: The system now automatically adjusts vehicle speed in curves, allowing drivers to stay hands-free for longer stretches compared to earlier versions.
  • Enhanced In-Lane Stability: An all-new motion controller minimizes side-to-side movements within the lane, ensuring a more centered driving experience.
  • Improved Hands-Free Performance in Diverse Conditions: BlueCruise 1.4 performs better in challenging situations like rain, direct sun, or narrow lanes, keeping hands-free driving available in more scenarios.

Imagine navigating a sharp curve on your daily commute with BlueCruise 1.4 engaged. Unlike earlier versions that might have disengaged, the system now smoothly adjusts your F-150’s speed to tackle the curve while remaining hands-free. Internal testing suggests that drivers can expect to stay in hands-free mode eight times longer on average compared to BlueCruise 1.0.

Building on Existing Features

BlueCruise 1.4 doesn’t eliminate the features introduced in previous versions. Drivers still benefit from:

  • Lane Change Assist: Change lanes hands-free with a simple turn signal tap.
  • In-Lane Repositioning: Subtly shift away from vehicles in adjacent lanes for extra space and peace of mind.

Availability and Future Updates

BlueCruise 1.4 will be available on select 2025 Ford and Lincoln vehicles with factory-installed BlueCruise, including the F-150 and Navigator. Additional models will follow suit. Existing BlueCruise-equipped vehicles may also receive the update in the future.

Continuous Improvement Through Real-World Data

Ford’s commitment to BlueCruise extends beyond individual software versions. The company continuously improves the system by analyzing data from over 492,000 BlueCruise-equipped vehicles on the road globally. This “Continuous Learning Loop” allows engineers to identify user behavior and driving conditions to further refine BlueCruise performance.

Software Updates and Vehicle Compatibility

Unlike simple smartphone updates, BlueCruise software updates are more complex. They involve multiple system modules and vehicle screens, ensuring optimal performance for each specific vehicle line and model year. Ford prioritizes delivering the latest available version of BlueCruise software, whether through factory installation or future updates.

The Future of Hands-Free Driving

Ford’s dedication to BlueCruise development extends beyond internal combustion engines. The company aims to deliver the same high-quality hands-free driving experience across its entire lineup, including hybrids and electric vehicles.

Safety Reminders

BlueCruise is a driver-assistance feature. It does not replace safe driving practices or the need for driver attention and control. Always keep your eyes on the road and be prepared to take over the vehicle at any moment. Refer to your owner’s manual for detailed information and limitations.
