Horrific Video Exposes Harassment in Uttarakhand: Police Take Action

A disturbing video that surfaced on social media Wednesday afternoon has led to the arrest of four men by the Uttarakhand Police. The video depicts two women being harassed by a group of men late at night near the Sacred Heart School in Haldwani. The police are still actively searching for the remaining perpetrators.

The incident took place on a quiet side street, identified as Mukhani Road, when a black Mahindra Scorpio forced the women’s vehicle to slow down. A second car, a Hyundai Nios i20, then appeared from the right side, with two men perched on the front doors, shouting abusive comments at the women.

The women were terrified as the cars blocked their path, preventing them from escaping. Fortunately, with the help of a man on a scooter, they were able to flee the scene. However, the harassment continued as the men tried to block their path again.

Prachi Joshi, who shared the video on X, expressed her shock and anger at the incident. She criticized the police for failing to ensure the safety and security of women, especially in light of recent high-profile cases of sexual violence in India.

Joshi’s post tagged the Uttarakhand Police and called for strict action against the perpetrators. She emphasized the importance of women’s safety and security in Haldwani and questioned the increasing prevalence of hooliganism in the city.

The disturbing video was posted online just hours before President Droupadi Murmu’s powerful appeal to the nation to prioritize women’s safety. She criticized the “obnoxious amnesia” that allows women to be subjected to harassment, assault, and brutality on a daily basis.

President Murmu emphasized that enough is enough and that no civilized society can tolerate such atrocities against women. She called for introspection and change, noting that despite the Nirbhaya case in 2012, countless rapes continue to be forgotten.
