This year, Feadship, a renowned leader in custom superyacht construction, celebrates 75 years of excellence in the maritime industry. The prestigious Dutch shipbuilder has been commemorating this milestone with a series of special events throughout the year, showcasing its history and future innovations. As part of the celebration, Feadship recently unveiled a new 75-meter (246-foot) superyacht concept designed to honor its 75th Diamond Anniversary. Named “C,” this innovative vessel was crafted by Studio de Voogt and takes inspiration from the design of a diamond. Interestingly, the yacht’s name derives from the symbol for carbon on the periodic table, as carbon is the fundamental element in diamonds.
For those unfamiliar with Feadship’s origins, the company was founded in 1949, and its name stands for “First Export Association of Dutch Shipbuilders.” Established after World War II, when the Dutch yacht-building industry was struggling, several leading shipbuilders in the Netherlands collaborated to market their products in the US under the Feadship brand. Today, three major entities operate under Feadship: Van Lent, De Vries, and De Voogt Naval Architects.
Feadship is widely recognized for its unique and innovative approach to yacht design, consistently avoiding conventional trends. The new concept, “C,” exemplifies this forward-thinking mindset. According to Feadship, “C” is not merely a design concept but a thoroughly researched, buildable yacht that integrates cutting-edge technologies with a stunning exterior and modern interior design.
Described as a “gem,” the exterior of “C” draws inspiration from the angular facets of a diamond, designed by Ruud Bakker and Tanno Weeda. The yacht’s sharp lines and extensive use of glass create a striking profile while also allowing natural light to flood its interior. This focus on natural light transforms the interior into an open, fluid living space, making it both functional and visually captivating.
To celebrate Feadship’s Diamond Jubilee, Studio de Voogt incorporated several design innovations. One notable feature is the seamless flow between decks, achieved by offsetting the forward and aft sections by half a level. This smooth transition creates a continuous and harmonious movement between spaces. Other features include a partially enclosed lower deck sea lounge offering panoramic views, as well as a beach club with sea-level dining. The design also features two hexagon-shaped infinity pools that complement the seating areas.
Inside the yacht, standout features include a spectacular atrium at its center with floating stars and a lift connecting all the decks. The duplex owner’s suite is another highlight, along with a crow’s nest that offers a private observation deck.
In addition to its luxurious design, Feadship’s “C” superyacht emphasizes sustainability. The yacht’s sleek hull shape and fully electric propulsion system, featuring inline contra-rotating propellers, reflect Feadship’s commitment to eco-friendly innovation. According to computer simulations, “C” is 30% more efficient than typical yachts of similar size. Following in the footsteps of previous Feadship designs such as “Breathe” and “Savannah,” this new yacht features a cutting-edge propulsion system powered entirely by fuel cells running on green methanol, supported by lithium-metal batteries. This design marks a significant evolution from previous hybrid models, with “C” being powered completely by renewable energy.
“C” is expected to have a cruising speed of 14 knots, typical for fuel cell-powered yachts, and can reach speeds of up to 17 knots using battery power. To further enhance efficiency, the yacht will be equipped with wave-actuated fins, generating additional power for onboard needs.
The innovative features of the “C” superyacht extend beyond design and performance. Feadship has also incorporated a state-of-the-art smart command center and navigation hub, using advanced situational awareness technology. This cutting-edge system has been implemented in previous models like “Ulysses” and the “Pure” concept, further solidifying Feadship’s reputation for blending luxury with high-tech solutions.
With its groundbreaking design, innovative technology, and commitment to sustainability, Feadship’s “C” represents a bold step into the future of superyacht development, perfectly aligning with the company’s 75-year legacy of maritime excellence.
