Volvo has revived its Cross Country badge for its newest electric vehicle, the EX30. This marks the first time Volvo has combined the Cross Country designation with an SUV, giving its compact EV a more rugged appearance.
While Volvo isn’t positioning the EX30 Cross Country as a revolutionary off-roader, its distinct styling is sure to appeal to buyers. The Cross Country stands out with black plastic wheel arch extensions, black panels at the front and rear (the rear panel featuring a relief map of Sweden’s Kebnekaise mountains), and “Cross Country” badging on the C-pillar, replacing the usual “EX30” script.
Beyond aesthetics, the Cross Country offers slightly increased ground clearance and underbody skid plates for added protection. While it comes standard with 19-inch wheels, buyers can opt for 18-inch wheels with off-road tires as part of the “Cross Country Experience” package.

This optional package also includes front and rear mud flaps, black roof rails, and a roof basket. However, the roof basket is likely to impact the vehicle’s claimed range of 265 miles (427 km) on a single charge from its 69 kWh battery. This range is already less than the standard EX30’s 280 miles (450 km), and performance is also slightly affected.

At launch, the EX30 Cross Country is available only with the most powerful EX30 powertrain: a dual-motor setup producing 422 hp (428 PS / 315 kW). This configuration allows for a 0-62 mph (0-100 kmh) time of 3.7 seconds, a tenth of a second slower than the non-Cross Country version with the same powertrain.

While Volvo hasn’t ruled out offering other motor options in the future, it’s unclear if the less powerful single-motor variant would be offered, as the lack of all-wheel drive would compromise the Cross Country’s intended purpose.

The Cross Country is offered exclusively in the top-tier Ultra trim, which includes features like a panoramic roof, Park Pilot assist, and a 360-degree camera. The Ultra trim currently starts at £42,350 in the UK and $47,895 in the US, and the Cross Country package is expected to add at least another £1,000/$1,000 to the price.
