Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has officially confirmed its entry into the Indian market with a phased launch strategy. Following the display of the VF3 micro-SUV at the 2025 Auto Expo, VinFast plans to begin with its flagship offering, the VF7 midsize electric SUV. This will be followed by the VF6 compact EV around Diwali 2025. The highly anticipated VF3, designed for budget-conscious buyers seeking a small urban EV, is expected to arrive in 2026.

VinFast’s strategy involves establishing its presence with the premium VF7 before introducing more affordable models. The VF6 will further cater to the compact SUV segment. The VF3’s introduction will come last, and VinFast has emphasized its commitment to significant localization for this model to ensure competitive pricing.

The VF3 is a compact, city-focused EV with dimensions designed for urban maneuverability. Its boxy, modern styling incorporates rugged elements like black wheel arch cladding, high ground clearance, and short overhangs, giving it a distinct look.

The interior emphasizes simplicity and functionality. A 10-inch touchscreen serves as both the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Seating is configured for four passengers, ideal for short trips, and cargo space is 285 liters, expandable by folding the rear seats.

The VF3 utilizes a rear-wheel-drive electric motor with 43.5 PS and 110 Nm of torque, powered by an 18.64 kWh battery pack. VinFast claims a range of 215 km and fast charging capability from 10 to 70 percent in 36 minutes. Its compact size and light weight are expected to translate to efficient city driving.

VinFast will establish a manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu for CKD assembly. The VF3 will benefit from extensive localization, which should lead to a competitive price point. While official pricing is pending, the VF3 is expected to be priced around Rs 10 lakh, positioning it against rivals like the MG Comet and Vayve Eva in the budget EV segment.
