Nissan Teases Six New Models, Including Rogue PHEV and Next-Gen Leaf

Nissan Teases New Models

Nissan recently unveiled its future product plans during its Q3 2024 financial presentation, outlining a mix of cost-cutting measures and exciting new models. Following the breakdown of merger discussions with Honda, the company aims to save $2.59 billion through restructuring, including workforce reductions and increased efficiency. Amidst this backdrop, Nissan teased six new vehicles slated for release in 2025 and 2026.

One of the most intriguing announcements is the upcoming plug-in hybrid version of the Nissan Rogue (known as the X-Trail in some markets) in 2025. The teaser image of this PHEV has raised eyebrows, as it bears a striking resemblance to the Mitsubishi Outlander. While the image is heavily obscured, the similarities are hard to ignore, especially given the existing platform sharing between the current Rogue/X-Trail and the Outlander. This has led to speculation about whether Nissan is minimizing development costs by leveraging Mitsubishi’s design, or if the similar look is simply coincidental.

The Rogue lineup will also see a refreshed e-Power hybrid version in 2026, featuring Nissan’s next-generation e-Power system, promising a 20% efficiency improvement over the first generation. This updated e-Power system will also be featured in the Qashqai. The teaser image of the Rogue e-Power suggests a mid-cycle refresh with updated LED headlights and the familiar Rogue silhouette.

Beyond the Rogue, Nissan’s future lineup includes the next-generation Leaf, an all-electric crossover positioned below the Ariya, launching in 2025. For the European market, Nissan is developing a new small electric hatchback, strongly rumored to be a sister model to the Renault 5 E-Tech Electric, sharing development with Renault but featuring distinct Nissan styling.

In 2026, Nissan will also refresh its Japanese market offerings with updated kei cars (likely the Dayz) and a refreshed large minivan (likely the Elgrand). Finally, the presentation highlighted the Nissan N7 electric sedan, which has already been revealed in China. The full presentation, featuring CEO Makoto Uchida and CFO Jeremie Papin, is available for viewing.
