New Tata Curvv SUV: Spy shots reveal fresh design insights

Autocarindia
The Curvv EV is set to debut ahead of the ICE model next year.
In recent months, Tata Motors' Curvv has remained shrouded in mystery, undergoing testing with heavy camouflage to conceal its true form. However, fresh spy shots have now revealed the sleek, coupe-like silhouette of the vehicle, providing intriguing insights into its design.
Distinctive Design Characteristics
One notable feature captured in the spy images is the sloping rear roofline, accentuating the Curvv's coupe-like form. Moreover, the absence of a rear quarter glass confirms its notchback shape, which was initially showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year. This unique design element sets it apart from the sea of SUVs it will compete with.
The alloy wheels seen on the test mule differ from those presented at the Auto Expo, but this variation could simply be for testing purposes. The vehicle maintains the muscular proportions seen in the concept model, featuring squared-off wheel arches and side moldings that contribute to its overall rugged appearance.
Tata Motors has seamlessly integrated the Curvv's design language into its recent releases. This is evident in elements such as the front LED strip, vertical headlamp positioning, and the sculpted bonnet. While the rear LED strip is not visible in the spy shots, slim tail-lights flank the boot.
Inside the vehicle, familiar elements from the Curvv concept are apparent, including the two-spoke steering wheel, new infotainment screen, and digital driver's display, which are expected to be retained upon the vehicle's official launch.

Powertrain Speculations
Despite the visibility of an exhaust pipe in the spy shots, the exact powertrain being tested remains a mystery. It could be the new turbo-petrol engine, a CNG powertrain, or possibly an electric vehicle (EV). Tata Motors has employed dummy exhaust pipes on EV test mules previously.
Shailesh Chandra, the Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility Ltd, mentioned at the launch of the Harrier and Safari facelifts that the introduction of the new petrol engine would take some time, as the development process had presented challenges.
A previous design sketch released by Tata Motors hinted at the possibility of a CNG powertrain for the Curvv.
Tata Motors has confirmed its plan to launch the Curvv EV first, followed by the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) models.
Expected Launch and Rivals
The alluring Curvv SUV is anticipated to debut in the first half of 2024 as an electric variant, with the ICE models following shortly after. Upon launch, it will enter the competitive midsize SUV segment, going head-to-head with popular contenders like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
The Curvv's distinct design and the intrigue surrounding its powertrain options are sure to make it a compelling addition to Tata Motors' lineup, poised to take on the fierce competition in the midsize SUV market.
