Mazda has unveiled a refreshed version of its MX-30 for the Japanese market, introducing the Retro Sports Edition. This special edition model builds on the existing MX-30 lineup, which includes BEV, range-extender, and MHEV variants.
The Retro Sports Edition features a distinctive exterior design with black accents on the wing mirrors and wheels, complemented by three new paint colors, including a unique terracotta-inspired shade. The interior has also been upgraded with a larger 10.25-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, and USB-C ports.
In terms of safety, the Retro Sports Edition adds several new features, such as pedestrian detection for the forward-detection system and a rear seat alert system. Additionally, new connected services have been introduced, including remote engine start and climate control via the My Mazda app.
The refreshed MX-30 lineup offers a range of powertrain options and price points. The entry-level Retro Sports Edition with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and mild-hybrid system starts at 2,935,900 yen. The range-extender rotary EV models are priced between 4,356,000 yen and 4,942,300 yen, while the flagship EV model starts at 4,669,500 yen.
While the MX-30 has faced challenges in markets like the US, its continued development and introduction of special editions like the Retro Sports Edition demonstrate Mazda’s commitment to the model and its evolving electric vehicle strategy.
