Maruti Suzuki’s Electric Surge: Four New EVs by 2030, e-Vitara Leads the Charge

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara

Maruti Suzuki is making a determined push to recapture a 50% share of the Indian automotive market, with a strong focus on electric vehicles. The company plans to launch four new battery-powered models by the end of the 2030 financial year, beginning with the highly anticipated e-Vitara, which is slated for release next month following its preview at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Show.

While Maruti Suzuki is keeping specifics under wraps, industry speculation suggests that the e-Vitara could be followed by an electric version of the Fronx. The company is also expected to introduce an electric variant of the Ertiga MPV, likely targeting fleet operators. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki is reportedly developing a compact electric vehicle to compete with the Tata Punch EV in the growing A-segment, where competition from Hyundai, Renault, and Nissan is also anticipated.

The e-Vitara, built on a platform jointly developed with Toyota, will offer two battery options: 49kWh and 61kWh, both utilizing BYD’s blade cell technology. The front-mounted motors will produce 143bhp and 173bhp, respectively, with a consistent torque output of 192.5Nm. Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that the larger battery pack will provide a range exceeding 500 kilometers based on MIDC testing, though official figures are yet to be released.

Positioned as a premium offering through Maruti’s Nexa dealerships, the e-Vitara will compete in the mid-size electric SUV segment against rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE.6, Tata Curvv EV, and MG ZS EV. Pricing is expected to range from Rs. 17 lakh for the base model to Rs. 22.50 lakh for the top-tier variant.
