KG Mobility, the rebranded SsangYong, has officially introduced the Musso EV in South Korea, marking a significant step in its global expansion plans. This launch heralds the debut of the Musso sub-brand, which will encompass both electric and traditional gasoline-powered pickup trucks. Notably, the Musso EV is the first fully electric pickup truck to be produced by a Korean automaker.
The Musso EV boasts a robust design, drawing inspiration from the Torres EVX SUV, but with a longer wheelbase, an open cargo bed, and enhanced rugged styling suitable for pickup duties. Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels and a utility roof rack, with options for a rear canopy and various customization features like a sunroof, skid plate, cargo divider, sliding bed, and roll bar.

While interior images are yet to be released, it’s anticipated that the dashboard will closely resemble that of the Torres EVX, featuring dual 12.3-inch displays. Additional highlights include an Alpine audio system, intelligent adaptive cruise control, and a 3D surround-view monitoring system.

Built on an extended version of the Torres EVX’s unibody platform, the Musso EV is powered by a single electric motor delivering 204 horsepower. The standard configuration is front-wheel drive, with an all-wheel-drive option for enhanced traction. Power is supplied by an 80.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack from BYD, allowing for a claimed range of up to 249 miles on a single charge for the two-wheel-drive variant. KG Mobility has confirmed that internal combustion engine versions of the Musso will soon join the lineup.

The Musso EV is now available for pre-order in South Korea, with plans for subsequent launches in Europe, the UK, and Australia.
In South Korea, the Musso EV is priced starting at approximately $33,500. However, with local electric vehicle subsidies, the price for small business owners can drop to around $23,000. This competitive pricing positions it against the gasoline-powered KGM Rexton Sports pickup, which starts at approximately $20,600 after a recent discount.

KG Mobility emphasizes the Musso EV’s reduced operational costs, estimating that five years of ownership will cost around $4,000, significantly less than the $9,700 difference compared to its gasoline-powered counterpart.
