Honda has taken significant strides in the electric vehicle (EV) market in China, unveiling its new Ye P7 crossover as part of a broader push to establish a foothold in the competitive EV segment. While the brand has lagged behind rivals in introducing battery-electric vehicles in Western markets, it has shown a more proactive approach in China, aligning with the country’s rapid shift toward electrification.

The Ye P7 is the first of three EV models Honda plans to launch in China, signaling its commitment to the region. First previewed in April alongside the Ye S7 crossover and the Ye GT Concept sedan, the production version of the Ye P7 has now been revealed. Recent disclosures by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology have also provided key technical details about the vehicle.

Manufactured in partnership with GAC, Honda’s local joint venture, the Ye P7 is a sizable electric crossover measuring 4,750 mm in length, 1,930 mm in width, and 1,625 mm in height, with a generous 2,930 mm wheelbase. Weighing 2,305 kg, it features large 21-inch wheels as standard, adding to its imposing presence.

The Ye P7 is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack sourced from CATL. While the battery’s capacity remains undisclosed, the EV features a dual-motor setup: a 201 hp front motor and a 268 hp rear motor. This configuration enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds, surpassing the performance of the Civic Type R.

Aesthetically, the Ye P7 draws design cues from premium crossovers like the Ferrari Purosangue and Toyota Crown Sport. Its exterior is highlighted by lobster claw-shaped LED headlights, a prominent hood with sculpted bumps, and squared-off gloss black fenders. Additional features include flush-fitting door handles and rear-facing cameras replacing traditional side mirrors, reflecting its modern design ethos.

The rear of the vehicle is equally striking, with LED taillights that mirror the design of the headlights, a large Honda emblem, and extensive gloss black accents.

While interior images of the Ye P7 are yet to be released, the concept version offered a glimpse into its advanced cabin. It featured a massive central touchscreen for controlling settings, including HVAC, along with a digital instrument cluster positioned on the dashboard. A wireless phone charging pad was also integrated, showcasing a mix of practicality and innovation.

The Honda Ye P7 is expected to launch in China later this year, underscoring the automaker’s efforts to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving EV market.
