AIM, the Japanese engineering firm behind the EV Sport 01, has unveiled the EVM, a new all-electric two-seater designed for urban environments. Its styling blends elements of European heavy quadricycles and Chinese minicars.
The EVM’s design comes from SN Design Platform, led by former Nissan design chief Shiro Nakamura. The exterior draws inspiration from Shisa, Okinawa’s guardian deity. The bodywork features clean curves, minimal overhangs, and distinctive round lighting units that resemble bulging eyes. A removable targa-style roof, with two pieces that stow in the boot, is another key design feature.
Smaller than the original Smart ForTwo, the AIM EVM measures 2,485 mm (97.8 inches) in length, 1,295 mm (51 inches) in width (excluding mirrors), and 1,560 mm (61.4 inches) in height. It’s also remarkably lightweight, weighing in at just 646 kg (1,424 pounds).

Despite its compact size, the EVM’s cabin comfortably accommodates two passengers and their belongings. The dashboard includes a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen and two centrally mounted digital meters. A few physical controls are located on the center console and steering wheel for essential functions.

Powering the EVM is a single electric motor generating 19 hp (14 kW) and 70 Nm (52 lb-ft) of torque. Adhering to Japan’s “Ultra-Compact Mobility” vehicle regulations, the EVM is limited to a top speed of 60 km/h (37 mph) and is not permitted on highways.

A 10 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack provides a range of 120 km (75 miles). Charging time is approximately 5 hours from a 200V socket, and an external power supply port is standard.
The AIM EVM will initially be available in Okinawa Prefecture this summer, with plans for nationwide distribution in Japan. The starting price is set at ¥1,900,000 ($12,500), and AIM aims to sell 1,000 units annually.
