Tata Motors is set to make waves in the Indian automotive market with its upcoming model, the Curvv. This versatile vehicle will be available in both internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric (EV) variants, catering to a wide range of consumer preferences. While the Curvv EV will hit the roads first on August 7, the ICE version is expected to follow closely in the subsequent month.
Recently, Tata Motors unveiled the exterior design of both Curvv models, generating significant buzz among automotive enthusiasts. Building on this excitement, the carmaker has now offered a sneak peek into the cabin design through a series of sketches.
A Familiar Yet Modern Interior
The interior of the Curvv and Curvv EV draws inspiration from the popular Tata Nexon, featuring a familiar yet modern dashboard layout. Key elements include a free-standing infotainment system, likely mirroring the impressive 12.3-inch unit found in the Harrier. Sleek AC vents and a touch-enabled climate control panel further enhance the cabin’s contemporary appeal.
The driver’s experience is elevated by a digital instrument cluster, expected to be a 10.25-inch unit, and a familiar gear shifter, both borrowed from the Nexon. However, a recent spy shot and the display model at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2024 suggest that the Curvv will ultimately feature a 4-spoke steering wheel, deviating from the initial 2-spoke design hinted at in the sketches.
Comprehensive Features and Safety
Beyond the core design elements, the Curvv is anticipated to be packed with features that prioritize comfort and convenience. A panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, and dual-zone climate control are expected to be included.
Safety remains a top priority for Tata, and the Curvv is likely to come equipped with six airbags as standard, along with a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
Powertrain Options
The Curvv ICE is set to offer a choice between petrol and diesel engines. The 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine is expected to deliver 125 PS of power and 225 Nm of torque, while the 1.5-litre diesel engine is anticipated to produce 115 PS and 260 Nm of torque. Both engines will be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The Curvv EV, on the other hand, will likely offer multiple battery pack options, targeting a claimed range of around 500 km. Tata Motors has yet to disclose specific details about the battery pack and electric motor specifications.
Pricing and Competition
The Tata Curvv ICE is projected to have a starting price of Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it as a direct competitor to the Citroen Basalt. It will also challenge established compact SUVs like the Maruti Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, Skoda Kushaq, and Citroen C3 Aircross.
For the Curvv EV, an estimated starting price of Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom) is anticipated. Key rivals in the electric SUV segment include the MG ZS EV, as well as the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti eVX.
The Tata Curvv is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian automotive market with its stylish design, feature-rich interior, and diverse powertrain options. As the launch dates approach, anticipation for this highly anticipated model continues to grow.
