Subaru is bringing a new, top-tier version of its WRX to Australia for 2025: the WRX tS Spec B. This model marks a significant shift, as it will finally offer a 6-speed manual transmission, catering to driving enthusiasts who have previously only had access to a CVT option in the Australian market. The US-spec WRX tS already offers a manual, but this is a first for Australia.
The WRX tS Spec B is designed to appeal to “driving purists and enthusiasts,” according to Subaru. It retains the familiar turbocharged 2.4-litre flat-4 engine, coupled with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. While official power figures haven’t been released, it’s anticipated that the engine will produce the same 271 hp (202 kW / 275 PS) and 258 lb-ft (350 Nm) of torque as the standard WRX tS.

Visually, the Spec B shares similarities with the US-spec tS, featuring quad tailpipes, Recaro seats, and matte grey 19-inch alloy wheels. However, it distinguishes itself with a large rear wing, borrowed from the Japanese-spec STI Sport and last year’s Australian WRX Club Spec Edition.

Performance enhancements include electronically controlled suspension and Brembo brakes with ventilated discs and gold calipers.
Subaru Australia General Manager, Scott Lawrence, expressed excitement about the WRX AWD tS Spec B, hinting at more details to come.

Pricing will be announced closer to the launch date, but it’s expected to exceed the price of the WRX tS Sport Lineartronic, which currently sits at AU$63,552 (US$40,600). The manual WRX tS Spec B will compete with performance models like the Toyota GR Corolla and the Honda Civic Type R.

Earlier this year, Subaru launched the limited-edition WRX STI S210 in Japan, boasting a more powerful 2.4-liter engine with 296 hp (221 kW / 300 PS) and an upgraded chassis. Interestingly, despite being the most powerful WRX and carrying all the STI performance upgrades, the S210 is exclusively available with a CVT.
