While the production version of the Peugeot 208 may lack a truly sporty variant, Stellantis has introduced a new rally car based on the model that is sure to excite fans of the hot hatch genre. The 208 Racing has been specifically designed for the FR6 Trophy, a new series that will be part of the French Rally Cup starting in 2025.
Drawing inspiration from the iconic Peugeot 106 Rallye, the 208 Racing features a distinctive livery, lime green accents, and a set of white steel wheels. Inside, the rally car boasts a welded roll cage, an automatic fire extinguishing system, and a competition-specific electronic architecture.
Under the hood, the 208 Racing is powered by an upgraded version of Stellantis’ 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder gasoline engine, producing 143 horsepower. This is a significant boost compared to the standard production model but falls short of the power output of the 208 Rally4. Despite this, the 208 Racing offers impressive performance thanks to its lightweight design and front-wheel-drive setup.
The rally car is designed to run exclusively on superethanol-E85 fuel, which offers a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. Additionally, Stellantis Motorsport has refined the suspension and braking systems to ensure optimal performance on rally stages.
While the 208 Racing may not be available to the general public, its introduction serves as a reminder of the excitement and thrill that hot hatch models can bring to the driving experience. As the FR6 Trophy gets underway in 2025, fans of rallying and performance cars can look forward to seeing the 208 Racing in action.
