Skoda Auto India has entered the competitive sub-4 metre SUV market with the launch of the Kylaq on November 6, its first compact SUV and third locally-developed model after the Kushaq and Slavia. Built on the MQB-A0-IN platform tailored for India, the Kylaq starts at Rs 7.89 lakh (ex-showroom). While full pricing details are yet to be announced, Skoda will open bookings on December 2, and deliveries are set to begin on January 27, 2025.
The Kylaq will compete with popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and Mahindra XUV300. In terms of dimensions, it’s designed to be smaller than the Kushaq, measuring 3,995mm in length, 1,783mm in width, and 1,619mm in height, with a 2,566mm wheelbase and a 189mm ground clearance.
Under the hood, the Kylaq packs a 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine delivering 115 bhp and 178 Nm of torque, paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Skoda claims the Kylaq can hit a top speed of 188 kmph, with a 0-100 kmph acceleration time of 10.5 seconds for the manual variant.
The Kylaq’s design follows Skoda’s Modern Solid theme, introduced with the Skoda Elroq. It features bold lines, a glossy black grille with 3D ribs, a prominent lower spoiler accented with aluminum, and LED DRLs that seamlessly integrate with the grille. The headlamps are positioned lower on the fascia, enhancing its distinctive look. The Kylaq also offers best-in-class boot space, with a 446-litre capacity.
Inside, the Kylaq mirrors the Kushaq’s layout, equipped with air vents, an 8-inch digital instrument cluster, and a central 10.1-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Notably, the Kylaq includes segment-first features like six-way electric and ventilated seats for the driver and front passenger.
Additional highlights include a single-pane sunroof, keyless entry, wireless phone charging, a cooled glove box, and, in select variants, cruise control and paddle shifters for the automatic variant. It also offers leatherette upholstery options with single or dual-tone interiors.
Safety-wise, the Kylaq comes with over 25 standard active and passive safety features, including six airbags, traction and stability control, ABS with EBD, brake disc wiping, rollover protection, electronic differential lock, multi-collision braking, ISOFIX mounts, and more.
