SAIC Volkswagen has revealed the Teramont Pro in China, a vehicle that offers a strong preview of the upcoming redesigned Volkswagen Atlas for other markets. This updated model showcases a larger, more sophisticated seven-seat crossover with significant enhancements both inside and out.
The Teramont Pro’s exterior design is characterized by a streamlined aesthetic. A fully enclosed grille, flanked by large, distinctive headlights, dominates the front fascia. A sporty lower bumper with various intakes adds to the dynamic look. The profile features flowing lines, flush-mounted door handles, and a unique character line, complemented by a revised greenhouse. A rear light bar with pixel-like taillights and a spoiler complete the exterior updates.

Dimensionally, the Teramont Pro has grown, measuring 203.1 inches (5,158 mm) long, 78.4 inches (1,991 mm) wide, and 70.4 inches (1,788 mm) tall. This makes it 2.4 inches (61 mm) longer than the current Atlas, with slight increases in width and height as well.

Inside, the Teramont Pro boasts a digital instrument cluster, a floating infotainment display, and a dedicated front passenger screen. Up to three additional screens can be incorporated, hinting at an available rear-seat entertainment system. Premium features include a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon audio system, and a 30-color ambient lighting system. A fragrance diffuser and a “queen” front passenger seat with an electric footrest, massage, and ventilation functions are also available. Rear climate controls, sunshades, a floating center console, and a wireless smartphone charger further enhance the interior experience.

Under the hood, the Teramont Pro debuts the fifth-generation EA888 engine. This updated 2.0-liter turbocharged engine promises improved responsiveness, fuel efficiency, and reduced emissions. Key enhancements include operation on the Miller cycle, a 500 bar ultra-high pressure fuel system, a variable-geometry turbocharger, and an advanced exhaust purification system. The engine also features strengthened internal components, an improved lubrication system, and intake and intercooler upgrades. Power output is now rated at 268 hp (200 kW / 272 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque, a substantial increase compared to the previous generation. This engine is paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, enabling a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of 7.6 seconds.

The Teramont Pro also features DCC adaptive chassis control and an IQ. Pilot assisted driving system, a Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving system. A “parking butler system” with remote parking assist is also included.
