Prepare for a visual assault. Mugen, Honda’s renowned tuning arm, will unveil a pre-production version of its wild Group B Civic Type R at the upcoming Tokyo Auto Salon. This follows the successful launch of the Group A kit, which transformed the already potent hot hatch into an even more aggressive street machine.
The Group B concept, showcased last year, takes the Type R’s aggressive styling to new extremes. The pre-production prototype closely mirrors the concept car, boasting a dramatic carbon fiber hood with aggressive vents, a massive front splitter, and redesigned front fenders with functional air louvers.
Mugen has also incorporated subtle yet impactful details, such as BMW M-inspired wing mirror caps and strategically placed air vents behind the wheels. Completing the aggressive aesthetic are new side skirts, a towering rear wing, and a bold diffuser, replacing the standard Type R’s triple exhaust tips with a single, more purposeful outlet.
Beyond the Type R, Mugen will showcase a tuning package for the Civic RS, featuring a revised front splitter, side skirts, and wing mirror caps. The display will also feature the victorious Red Bull Motul Mugen SF23 race car from the All Japan Super Formula Championship.
The Tokyo Auto Salon, scheduled to take place in January, promises to be a showcase of Mugen’s expertise in pushing the boundaries of Honda performance.
