Maruti Suzuki Starts Production at New Kharkhoda Plant

Maruti Suzuki Kharkhoda Plant

Maruti Suzuki has officially initiated production at its newly established manufacturing plant in Kharkhoda, Haryana, marking a significant expansion of its production footprint in India. The facility, whose groundwork was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in August 2022, has commenced operations, aligning with the company’s initial 2025 timeline, despite facing some minor challenges.

This new plant is expected to significantly contribute to Maruti Suzuki’s sales figures for the 2025-26 fiscal year, with the Brezza model being the first vehicle to roll off its assembly lines. On February 25, 2025, the company celebrated the start of commercial production at the Kharkhoda site, which boasts an annual production capacity of 250,000 units.

Increased Production Capacity and Future Model Expansion

The Kharkhoda plant, in conjunction with Suzuki Motor Gujarat Pvt Ltd, now enables Maruti Suzuki to achieve a combined annual production capacity of 2.6 million vehicles. While the Brezza is currently the sole model produced at the Kharkhoda facility, the company intends to expand its production to include additional models in the future. Previously, the Brezza was manufactured at Maruti Suzuki’s Manesar plant, which also produces popular models such as the Dzire, Ertiga, and WagonR. Notably, the Manesar plant achieved a production milestone of 10 million units in October 2024, since its inception in October 2006.

Electric Vehicle Strategy

Maruti Suzuki has outlined its plans to introduce four new electric vehicles to the Indian market by 2030. The Kharkhoda plant is being considered as a potential production site for some of these EVs. The company’s first electric vehicle, named the eVitara, will share its platform with a Toyota counterpart, the Urban Cruiser EV. Both models are scheduled to be manufactured at Maruti’s Gujarat facility.

The expansion of its manufacturing capabilities through the Kharkhoda plant reflects the company’s focus on innovation and sustainable practices within the Indian automotive industry.
