Kia is set to unveil its highly anticipated Syros tomorrow, a compact SUV that has been generating significant buzz in the Indian market. Following numerous sightings and a series of teasers, the Korean automaker is finally ready to officially introduce this exciting new model.
While initially positioned above the Sonet, leaked dimensions reveal the Syros to be a sub-4-meter SUV, measuring 3,995mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,665mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,550mm. This strategic positioning aims to capitalize on the popular sub-4-meter segment while offering a distinct character. Notably, the Syros boasts an impressive 465-liter boot, one of the largest in its class.
Bold Design and Spacious Interior
The Syros will break away from the design language seen in Kia’s existing SUVs like the Sonet and Seltos, embracing a more boxy and distinctive aesthetic. Key design elements include vertically stacked LED headlights, L-shaped tail lamps reminiscent of the flagship EV9, a flat bonnet, square-shaped wheel arches, and flush door handles.
The interior promises a premium feel with features like a push-button start/stop integrated into the center console, an electronic parking brake, a wireless charging pad, ambient lighting, a floating touchscreen, and a newly designed steering wheel with an offset Kia logo and multifunction controls. A panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, full LED illumination, a digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera, rear AC vents, and a large infotainment system with wireless smartphone connectivity are expected to enhance the driving experience. Safety will be a priority, with six airbags and Level 2 ADAS features.
Powertrain Options
The Syros is anticipated to be offered with a choice of two engines: a proven 1.5-liter diesel engine generating 114 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, and a 1.0-liter turbo-petrol engine producing 118 bhp and 172 Nm of torque. Transmission options will likely include a six-speed manual, a seven-speed DCT, and a six-speed torque converter automatic.
A Unique Offering in the Segment
With its distinctive design, spacious cabin, and competitive feature set, the Kia Syros is poised to make a significant impact in the Indian market. While Kia already has a strong presence in the sub-4-meter SUV segment with the Sonet, the Syros aims to carve its own niche by focusing on practicality, comfort, and a unique design philosophy.
