Jeep has finally revealed the changes coming to the 2025 Wrangler, nearly three months after announcing the discontinuation of the Wrangler 392 Final Edition. While some updates are welcome, others have left enthusiasts disappointed.
The End of an Era: 3.6-Liter Pentastar V6 with Automatic
One of the most significant changes for 2025 is the discontinuation of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This popular combination is now only available with a six-speed manual transmission. The decision to drop the automatic option is puzzling, especially considering the exorbitant $4,500 premium that Jeep previously charged for it.
While Jeep claims that “freedom of choice defines the available powertrains,” the reality is that customers who desire an automatic transmission will now be limited to the plug-in hybrid powertrain, the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, or the 6.4-liter HEMI V8.
Power Windows and Locks Now Standard
Another notable change for 2025 is the introduction of power windows and locks as standard features on all Wrangler models. Previously, these features were limited to higher trim levels like the Sport S and above. This update marks the end of an era for the Wrangler, as crank windows were a hallmark of the classic off-roader.
New Paint Color and Active Cabin Ventilation
In addition to the mechanical changes, the 2025 Wrangler also receives a new paint color called “’41,” inspired by olive drab. The model can also be equipped with a newly available Active Cabin Ventilation system, which allows drivers to pre-ventilate the cabin using a mobile app.
Price Increases
Given the additional equipment on the entry-level Wrangler Sport, it’s not surprising to see a slight increase in the base price. The Sport S sees a modest price hike, while the Willys and Sahara experience more significant price increases. However, it’s important to note that not all trims are listed, and prices may not be final.
Overall, the 2025 Jeep Wrangler offers a mix of updates. While the new features and technology are welcome, the discontinuation of the 3.6-liter V6 with automatic transmission is a significant loss for many enthusiasts. It remains to be seen how these changes will impact the Wrangler’s popularity in the competitive off-road market.
