Hyundai’s premium mid-size SUV, the Tucson, has aced the BNCAP safety tests, securing a 5-star rating. This makes it the first Hyundai vehicle to undergo testing by the Indian New Car Assessment Programme.
The Tucson, which was introduced in India in 2022, hasn’t quite matched the popularity of some other models in its segment. Nonetheless, it remains a significant part of Hyundai’s lineup.
In the BNCAP tests, the Tucson impressed with a score of 30.84 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection. The frontal offset crash test yielded a strong performance, with a score of 14.84 out of 16 points for both driver and passenger. The SUV offered “adequate” protection in some areas and “good” protection in others. In the side impact test, the Tucson achieved a perfect score of 16 out of 16 points.
For child occupant safety, the Tucson scored 41 out of 49 points, securing a 5-star rating. The child restraint systems for both 18-month-old and 3-year-old dummies, positioned in rear-facing seats, received a flawless dynamic score of 24 out of 24. The vehicle assessment and child restraint system installation also earned impressive scores of 5 out of 13 and 12 out of 12 points, respectively.
Currently, the Hyundai Tucson is priced between ₹29.01 lakh and ₹35.94 lakh (ex-showroom). The tested version is powered by a 2.0-liter petrol engine mated to an automatic transmission. Safety features on the SUV include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat anchors, seatbelt reminders, and more. Higher-end variants are equipped with advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
