Stellantis, the automotive giant formed from the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Group, is facing increasing pressure to restructure its portfolio. Despite initial optimism following the merger, recent financial results have revealed significant challenges, particularly in the American market.
CEO Carlos Tavares has indicated that not all Stellantis brands will have until 2031 to achieve profitability, as previously stated. This suggests that a decision on the future of struggling brands like Maserati and Lancia may be imminent.
The US divisions of Stellantis have also been impacted by declining sales, with deliveries falling 17% below one million units in the first nine months of 2024. Brands such as Chrysler and Dodge have been particularly vulnerable. The Dodge Hornet subcompact CUV has underperformed, and the Durango SUV is set to be discontinued without a V8 engine option. The highly anticipated 2025 Charger, while offering a powerful 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six engine, faces uncertainty in its ability to replace the iconic Hellcat and Demon models.
In an effort to bolster its lineup, a digital artist has proposed bringing the Dodge Attitude, a subcompact sedan currently sold in Mexico, to the US market. The artist envisions transforming the Attitude into an SRT-4 performance model, featuring aggressive styling, a powerful turbocharged engine, and upgraded suspension components. While this concept is purely speculative, it highlights the potential for Stellantis to leverage its global resources to create new and exciting products.
