Daihatsu Unveils Turbocharged Mira e:S Concept at Tokyo Auto Salon

Daihatsu

Daihatsu has announced an exciting addition to its Tokyo Auto Salon 2025 lineup: a performance-focused version of the Mira e:S kei car featuring a turbocharged engine and Gazoo Racing enhancements. This concept car, while not yet confirmed for production, hints at a potential sporty entry into the kei car segment.

Rally-Inspired Kei Car

Based on the second-generation Mira e:S, the concept boasts a sportier aesthetic with a redesigned front bumper, unique rear styling, and eye-catching side gills. Riding on stylish BBS alloy wheels and equipped with sporty seats, the concept car signals a departure from the standard Mira e:S’s more utilitarian design.

The heart of this performance-oriented kei car lies under the hood. The 660cc three-cylinder engine has been turbocharged, promising a significant power boost over the standard model’s 48 horsepower. While specific power figures remain undisclosed, it’s likely to surpass the 64 horsepower output of the turbocharged Copen.

To further enhance the driving experience, Daihatsu has replaced the standard CVT with a manual transmission. The addition of Gazoo Racing badging suggests that the Mira e:S Turbo will feature a sportier chassis setup, tuned for improved handling and responsiveness.

Racing and Relief Efforts

Alongside the Mira e:S Turbo concept, Daihatsu will showcase the rally-spec Mira e:S that competed in Rally Japan 2024. This race car features a distinctive bodykit, including a vented hood and rally-specific wheels, along with a roll cage and racing seats.

Daihatsu will also display a range of modified kei vans at the Tokyo Auto Salon. These vehicles highlight the versatility of the kei car platform, with applications ranging from disaster relief to mobile workshops.

The Tokyo Auto Salon 2025 will take place from January 10th to 12th, offering visitors a glimpse into Daihatsu’s innovative spirit and its commitment to pushing the boundaries of kei car technology.
