Volvo India has confirmed the updated XC90 SUV will be available for purchase starting March 4, 2025. This second major refresh since its 2014 launch brings design elements inspired by its all-electric sibling, the EX90, while maintaining the XC90’s familiar proportions. Notably, the updated XC90 will no longer offer a diesel option, instead focusing on mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrains. All models will come standard with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Pricing is expected to start around Rs. 1.05 crore (ex-showroom), positioning it against competitors like the Mercedes-Benz GLE, BMW X5, Audi Q7, and Lexus RX.
The 2025 XC90’s exterior styling aligns with the EX90. While the overall silhouette remains unchanged, the front fascia receives a new grille, revised chrome accents, and sleeker headlights incorporating Volvo’s signature “Thor’s Hammer” LED daytime running lights. The front bumper has also been subtly redesigned. In profile, the XC90 retains traditional door handles, body-colored mirrors, and silver roof rails. New dual-tone alloy wheels, likely 21 inches in size, will be available. The rear features a redesigned bumper with a horizontal chrome strip and updated LED taillights.

Inside, the 2025 XC90 embraces a minimalist aesthetic with subtle enhancements. The 7-seat configuration is expected to be retained, along with a 3-spoke steering wheel. While the dual-tone color scheme and leatherette upholstery are likely to continue, Volvo may incorporate more sustainable materials. The XC90 will offer a comprehensive suite of features, including a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, an 11.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 19-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, a heads-up display, ventilated and massaging seats, a panoramic sunroof, and four-zone automatic climate control with rear vents.

Volvo’s commitment to safety is evident in the new XC90. Standard safety features will include multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, hill start and hill descent assist, and an electronic parking brake. The SUV will also feature a Level 2 ADAS suite, encompassing lane-keeping assist and adaptive cruise control, along with park assist sensors.

The 2025 XC90 will offer two powertrain options: a 2.0-litre mild-hybrid turbo-petrol engine producing 246.58 bhp and 360 Nm of torque, and a more powerful 2.0-litre turbo-petrol plug-in hybrid generating 448.78 bhp and 709 Nm of torque. Both engines will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Also Read: Toyota Innova BEV Concept Unveiled at IIMS 2025
