Yamaha has announced a major production milestone for its R15 motorcycle, reaching 1 million units. Since its introduction, the R15 has been a key player in Yamaha’s performance strategy in India, known for its advanced technology, stylish design, and exceptional riding experience, particularly among young riders.

The millionth R15 rolled off the production line at Yamaha’s Surajpur plant. This achievement highlights Yamaha’s commitment to manufacturing excellence and adherence to global quality standards, meeting both domestic and international demand. Over 90% of the R15s produced have been sold within India, reflecting the strong preference for premium motorcycles in the country. The R15 has also become an important export model for Yamaha, bolstering its global presence.

More than just a motorcycle, the R15 has become a symbol of passion and a gateway to premium motorcycling for over a million riders in India over the past 16 years. Yamaha Chairman, Itaru Otani, expressed gratitude to customers and employees, emphasizing the R15’s racing DNA and Yamaha’s dedication to the future of performance motorcycling.

Since its 2008 launch, the R15 has consistently raised the bar in the performance motorcycle segment. The original R15 introduced features like a liquid-cooled engine, DiASil Cylinder, and Deltabox frame. Subsequent iterations, including the V2.0, R15 S, V3, and the current V4, brought continuous improvements in performance, handling, comfort, and technology, including VVA engines, assist & slipper clutches, inverted forks, LED lighting, traction control, and quick shifters. This constant evolution has solidified the R15’s position as a leading motorcycle in India. The million-unit milestone underscores Yamaha’s commitment to innovation and quality in delivering world-class motorcycles.
