TVS Motor Company has unveiled the groundbreaking Jupiter CNG at the Auto Expo 2025, marking a significant milestone in the Indian two-wheeler market. While the official launch date remains undisclosed, key details of the world’s first production CNG scooter have been revealed.
Sharing its platform with the popular Jupiter 125, the CNG variant retains familiar features like a spacious footboard and a front-mounted fuel filler cap. Suspension and braking components remain unchanged, and the scooter continues to sport stylish diamond-cut alloy wheels. However, the signature 33-liter underseat storage space has been replaced to accommodate a 1.4 kg (9.5-liter) CNG fuel tank.
The Jupiter CNG boasts a claimed cumulative range of 226 kilometers, translating to a remarkable fuel efficiency of 84 km/kg. This translates to a running cost of less than ₹1 per kilometer, making it an extremely economical option for daily commuters.
Powering the Jupiter CNG is a 125cc, single-cylinder engine adapted for dual-fuel operation. While derived from the Jupiter 125, the CNG variant experiences a slight performance drop, producing 7.10 bhp and 9.4 Nm of torque compared to the 8.04 bhp and 10.5 Nm of the petrol-only model.
In terms of features, the Jupiter CNG offers a blend of practicality and convenience. It comes equipped with a LED headlamp, a semi-digital instrument cluster, a side stand indicator, and an engine inhibitor. Furthermore, TVS’s innovative iGo start-stop technology further enhances fuel efficiency.
The TVS Jupiter CNG is poised to disrupt the market as the first-of-its-kind CNG scooter. While the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG presents the closest competition, the Jupiter CNG’s unique combination of features and fuel efficiency is expected to make it a compelling choice for environmentally conscious and budget-minded riders.
