A decade later, the naked triple undergoes updates in design, comfort, and technology.

In the world of motorcycling, certain names resonate with enthusiasts and riders alike. Yamaha's MT-09, formerly known as the FZ-09, is one such name. It's hard to believe it's been a decade since the Yamaha FZ-09 burst into the naked bike segment, and here we are, celebrating the 10-year anniversary of the since-renamed MT-09. A decade is a significant milestone for any model, and for 2024, Yamaha is back with an evolutionary update that promises to redefine the standards in the industry.

Bold New Design

One of the standout features of the 2024 Yamaha MT-09 is its bold new design. Yamaha, true to its innovative spirit, has given the MT-09 a visual overhaul that is sure to turn heads on the road. The most striking change is the new LED headlight, featuring a redesigned cover and a smaller lens that's positioned higher up between the forks. This update gives the bike a distinct and aggressive look, reminiscent of a certain comic book villain, Bane.

The makeover doesn't stop there. The rear of the bike boasts a newly designed LED taillight with a sleeker appearance, along with LED turn signals. The fuel tank has been redesigned, sitting 30mm lower, providing riders with more freedom to move on the bike. This, coupled with the new, slimmer, two-piece seat unit, ensures a more ergonomic riding experience. The handlebars have also been repositioned to allow for greater flexibility and comfort, and the footpegs have been moved slightly more rearward and higher, providing riders with a customizable experience.

Enhanced Performance

Under the sleek exterior, Yamaha has ensured that the MT-09 retains its reputation for heart-pounding performance. The 890cc inline-triple engine remains largely unchanged, maintaining its status as one of the finest powerplants in the motorcycle world. The CP3 engine's two-duct intake design, complete with acoustic amplifier grilles atop the fuel tank, magnifies the induction honk, delivering a thrilling riding experience.

Yamaha's commitment to excellence extends to the brakes, with the addition of a Brembo radial master cylinder for improved control. The clutch lever is also updated, now offering multiple adjustments to cater to different rider preferences.

Cutting-Edge Electronics

The 2024 MT-09 takes a significant leap in terms of electronics, featuring a larger 5-inch full-color TFT display that seamlessly connects with your smartphone. This high-tech cockpit allows riders to stay connected while on the go, offering smartphone connectivity and navigation through the Garmin StreetCross app.

The MT-09's three standard ride modes—Sport, Street, and Rain—remain unchanged, but Yamaha has introduced two custom modes, which riders can program using the MyRide smartphone app or the revised switch gear. These custom modes enable riders to fine-tune their riding experience, suiting their preferences and riding conditions.

When it comes to electronic rider aids, the 2024 MT-09 boasts a six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU). This IMU enables advanced features such as lean-sensitive traction control, slide control, front wheel lift control, and brake control. What's new for this model is the Back Slip Regulator (BSR), designed to stabilize the rear wheel during engine-braking and compensate for lower-grip scenarios. Additionally, Yamaha introduces its third-generation Quick Shift System (QSS) for seamless clutchless upshifts and downshifts, both during acceleration and deceleration.

Suspension and Handling

Yamaha has not overlooked the bike's suspension and handling. The 41mm KYB fork is now fully adjustable, offering 5.1 inches of travel. The KYB shock at the rear is adjustable for preload and rebound damping and features a new linkage design. These enhancements translate to a more responsive and comfortable ride, allowing riders to tackle various terrains with ease.

Modern Connectivity and Convenience

Connectivity and convenience are top priorities for the 2024 MT-09. A new 5-inch full-color TFT display with smartphone connectivity and navigation takes center stage, while all-new integrated handlebar switches offer an improved user experience.

One of the standout features is the integration of Yamaha's Y-Connect app, allowing riders to link their smartphone seamlessly. This connectivity enables turn-by-turn navigation through the Garmin StreetCross app. The MT-09 truly becomes a connected companion for the modern rider, keeping you informed and entertained on every journey.
