Introducing the All-New Volkswagen Nivus

Volkswagen has unveiled a refreshed version of its Nivus subcompact crossover in South America. Known as the Taigo in Europe, the updated model boasts enhanced styling, technology, and a new performance-oriented GTS trim slated for release in 2025.

The facelifted Nivus features a redesigned front fascia with slimmer headlights, a larger grille, and a more prominent bumper intake, aligning with Volkswagen’s latest design language. New 17-inch wheels and a revised rear bumper with updated LED graphics further enhance its appearance.

Inside, the cabin retains its familiar layout but benefits from a more modern infotainment system with expanded connected car features. The available 10.1-inch touchscreen display complements an 8-inch or 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, while standard equipment includes adaptive cruise control, a rearview camera, wireless charging, and automatic climate control.

Under the hood, the Nivus continues to be powered by a turbocharged 1.0-liter three-cylinder engine (200 TSI) that produces 128 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque on ethanol. This engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and exclusively drives the front wheels.

The upcoming Nivus GTS is expected to share the powertrain with the Polo GTS, featuring a turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 148 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque.

The facelifted VW Nivus is now available for order in Brazil with a starting price of R$136,990 ($24,480). It remains uncertain whether the updates introduced in this model will be applied to the European-spec Taigo.

Volkswagen’s South American lineup will soon expand to include three subcompact SUVs, with the recently refreshed T-Cross and Nivus joined by a new entry-level model scheduled to debut in 2025.
